Over the last several years, Burlington, VT has had one of the most fruitful local scenes, birthing a wealth of pop, noise, and experimental music. Surgical Renaissance is Burlington’s relatively new noise duo of Matt Mayer (A Snake In The Garden, Einfgall, RATS COPS, NNA Tapes) and Mike Timmers (Lord Bird, Lord Bird Golden Cobra). Surgical II is the best of their three self-released cassettes from 2013. The double cassette, one of the best noise releases of last year, gives four sides of hard hitting harsh electronics, melding high-end feedback with industrial scrapes, crunches, and blasts. The interplay between these two elements gives Surgical Renaissance an extremely dynamic sound. The music speaks for itself, and for fans of noise this is essential listening.
