Matt Spent is a Massachusetts native living down in Austin, TX. He’s played some great, non-weener music over the years in bands like Maine Coons, and Closet Fairies.

AUDACITY – MELLOW CRUISERS AND LIVE
Garage pop is overdone and it seems like every weener with a pair of knock off Ray Bans has a shitty garage pop band these days, but AUDACITY pulls this schtuff off flawlessly. Aural crack catchiness with songwriting that’s not boring and derivative. There’s 10 songs on MELLOW CRUISERS and there’s not a throwaway on the record. I’m so on these guys nuts that there’s Audacity ball sweat on my forehead… Seriously I’ve listened to this album over a hundred times, there’s something wrong with me! They kick ass live too… Audacity, totally not WEENERS.
APACHE DROPOUT – BUBBLEGUM GRAVEYARD + LIVE
Tilted and jilted Midwestern garage psych freek beat. Super simple tunes with with bells and whistles in all the right places. These dudes get a few extra slurps from my milkshake for being able to carry out all the recorded madness live. So yeah APACHE DROPOUT ARE NOT WEENERS!
FROZEN TEENS – S/T
Probably the most overlooked record of the year. Hell, this may have come out in 2011 but its so not WEENER rock i’m putting it on here. These Minneapolis dudes play infectious pop tinged punk that has a timeless early Descendents or Wipers feel to them. Highly recommended for fans of Marked Men or people who like secret handshake hardcore. Yeah buddy, FROZEN TEENS = NON WEENERZ.
WARM SODA – LIVE
From the mustachioed man stuck in the 70’s that brought us lotsa good tunes with BARE WIRES. WARM SODA picks up where BARE WIRES left off with crazy good simple songwriting that has many highly addictive licks. These guys may be WEENERS – it can’t be confirmed at the moment -but they do rock some balls mang!
UZI RASH – LIVE
One of the best live bands I saw this year which was unfortunately their last tour. Bonkers ass cracker music like Pere Ubu mixed with crack pot tropicalia. I recommend you seek out these dudes wax platters! This band comes with my NON WHACK ASS WEENER NO GUARANTEE CERTIFICATION.
SPRAY PAINT – S/T + LIVE
The best Austin band I’ve had the pleasure of seeing live this year. Two guitars with wacky tuning and obscure sunn amps + drums making a pretty unique sounding racket like A FRAMES and URINALS loaded into a space bong and smoked til yer grand mammy pukes. They have a few 7″erz on SS Records… Track ’em down yo! Are these guys WEENERS lord?
NO SIR I WON’T – MORE POLITICIANS 7″
Awesome political punk made by dudes I’m certain aren’t WEENERS. The lyrics articulate the thoughts that enter my warped mind and turn to anger before I can express them. I guess you could say No Sir I Won’t speaks to me the same way Obama speaks to people at Starbucks. OOF! Hopefully these wankers will make it to Texas sometime!
