Sometimes two powerful elemental forces come together, across the vast expanse of the musical periodic table, to create an experience so satisfying that it leaves you with that “holy shit” feeling. I don’t know if those are the two words that Space Camp and Lady Queen Paradise thought to themselves as they saw their Sound It Out Session released on youtube, where they performed the song “Space Camp Face Tattoo” (which is the closing track on Space Camp’s most recent release “Force Femmed”) but that is literally all that came to mind as I watched the piece.
The studio session took quite a long time after filming to be released, but it was worth the wait, allowing us a peek at the truly beautiful, passionate, and fabulous energy displayed by these intensely talented performers. Adding Lady Queen Paradise’s clean but howling vocal range to Space Camp’s experimental hardcore foundation creates a whirling but calculated dervish that evokes all of the best parts of a Mars Volta tune but gets straight to the point instead of jamming on endlessly.
If you dig this perhaps check out this fundraising page to help their rad as hell pianist afford to create an amazing piece of orchestral video art, titled “How To Ripen A Peach”, including performances by amazing queer and trans musicians who will be paid for their time!
