If you do a Google search for “skillet band”, pretty much the only results you will get will be for the Christian alternative rock band, Skillet, from Memphis, Tennessee. But Lexington, KY punk band Skillet wants to change that, which is where the album name We’re Taking It Back comes from. This particular Skillet excels at raw, rootsy and sometimes dark basement punk that finds itself on musical territory where rock, punk, garage, and folk all converge.

The upbeat “Timmy” is a favorite track, as is “Thurston”, where the band slyly acknowledges its not-so-subtle Sonic Youth influence.
