Sick Seed is Pekka Perä-Takala, the Finnish noise/power electronics musician who runs the Untergeschoss label and is a member of the noisecore band Funeral Mongoloids and power electronics trio Bizarre??Mania, among others. The power electronics of Sick Seed, which has ranged in sound from 80s power electronics to a more harsh noise sound, has evolved even further on Helsingin Synagogat, out now on Filth & Violence and Untergeschoss. The three track 7” shows Sick Seed at its most industrial, utilizing primarily guitar and scrap metal. The final track (embedded below), a tribute to Jandek, mixes the outsider blues of its dedicatee with clanging metal scrapes and percussion to create something dismal and sparse. While probably not the best entry point to the work of Sick Seed, Helsingin Synagogat offers some of Pekka PT’s most interesting compositions as well as pushing the project fully into realms that have only been touched on in previous releases.
