I interviewed Worcester’s SECRET LOVER a few months back (BHsearch: interview) and seen ‘em perform live. Since then this friendly 4-piece has kept busy touring the US and graces us with a new self-released tape ‘The Lasso’ (also a DL from Bandcamp) 5 new songs and a reprise of their cheery tune ‘Perfect Wednesday’, just in time for the holidays. Winter is actually a great time to listen to SECRET LOVER’s warm jingle-jangle garage pop. There’s a comfortable 60’s aesthetic here that makes a great soundtrack for fireplace and bearskin rug. Better still is to catch a live show (easily done in Worcester, NYE or Jan 3rd) as they gear-up for another trans-AM sojourn (check BC/FB for dates!) in January. Sally and crew don’t hold back, live or recorded, resonating with contralto soul over a spooky-owl choral backdrop. Check ‘Elevator of Time’, my current fave.
