RUT is a relatively new hardcore punk band from Santa Rosa, CA featuring member(s) of Acrylics. Attraction, following up last year’s demo, is out now on Digital Regress and features four tracks of straight-to-the-point stomping hardcore. The music here is fairly simple but what really makes it stand out is how cleanly RUT execute their take on mid-tempo mosh jams. RUT presents the listener with a blend of Concealed Blade, if you only took their breakdowns, and Exit Order, stripped of the post-punk, with more heavily reverbed vocals. While they aren’t exactly reinventing the wheel, RUT feels sufficiently free of prevailing trends to be a record you’ll still want to listen to six months from now. Fair warning: if you’re looking for the weirdness of Acrylics, you won’t find it – but this is a record well-worth your time.
