RULETA RUSA – “LA LEY”

by

San Franciscan punks RULETA RUSA have a busy fall ahead of them. They’re heading out East for a few shows, starting with one at ABC NO RIO (the fact that place still exists makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside) and ending with a festival in Montreal, AND their debut record just came out on SORRY STATE.

Although the entire album is available to stream (and download) from SORRY STATE’s bandcamp (or you could just order the record), I thought I’d share their video for “LA LEY” instead. I don’t know about you, but I was immediately won over with the video starting off with a Mariah Carey poster being ripped off a wall. I generally prefer punk that isn’t afraid to be a little funny, it doesn’t always have to be “The Feeding of 5,000”, man. Throughout the video there is a cop that keeps trying to “get them”, but we all know that it is very easy to run away from them, right? This song is an awesome taste of RULETA RUSA’s sound, bursting at the seems with fast riffs, kicking-and-screaming vocals all sung in Spanish, and a rhythm section that keeps them in line. SORRY STATE puts it best, “recommended for punks who like punk”. I file this under “music that will make me want to push people on the train if I listen to it during rush hour commute”. Catch RULETA RUSA in Boston on November 6th, venue TBA.
