Cleveland has always been a demented place for punk and hardcore. From Inmates to Folded Shirt, there has always been a little something off in Cleveland. Rubber Mate are one of the newer bands to come out of the mistake on the lake. Rub ‘Em All is their debut 7” co-released by Saucepan Records and Cruel Noise, and following up their demo from last year. Their sound is a mutant blend of punk rock and noise rock, reductively describable as a blend of Brainbombs and the Crucifucks but equally a building upon the sounds of local mind-melters. The cretinous punk of Homostupids and the demented vocals of Larry Darvocet stand out as key touchstones in the collective dementia that is Rubber Mate. For any of you who have ever thought that Rectal Hygienics needed to be snottier, Rubber Mate will be your new obsession.
