ROBERT ANTON PIZZA – ‘VULCAN STRIKE’

by

Here’s a bit of psychedelically sweet A/V candy to reward you for a week well done. Electric-mystic hermit(s) ROBERT ANTON PIZZA do a pretty good job of keeping a low profile. Although R.A.P. has since at least 2010 regularly released smooth, mesmerizing new age sample-drones – often with digitally decomposing visual accompaniment a la Luke Wyatt – to effusive accolades amongst a certain sub strata of the internet, little is known about this… duo? No matter. This Vancouver-based mongrel continues the tradition of fiendishly playful astral drones so well explored by early Ducktails, White Rainbow and the like, incorporating the gyrating hum of synth chords and driving percussion of extended rhythms that often veer into kosmiche realms, but with a squiggly new wave feel. What distinguishes Pizza from his meme-spouting interweb peers is a frisky humor and keen ability to ride that line between spaced-out and a refreshing immediacy that fits right into your slo-mo dance party.

Pizza continues to ride this cosmic funk stallion with ‘Vulcan Strike,’ a new piece for the first issue of video zine Extended Play. Its quick, its fun, it goes down easy like soda pop, and the visual collage of pixel-distorted 70’s japanese sci-fi pulp compliments the silly, slap happy groove. For more audio-visual pleasures, we recommend you explore their vimeo channel and extensive (free) discography.
