PRIESTS — BODIES AND CONTROL AND MONEY AND POWER

by

My friend and fellow Hassle-r Sydney has been urging me to check out Washington, D.C.’s PRIESTS for a while, and I’m glad I finally have. Bodies and Control and Money and Power, the band’s latest EP, is an angry, throbbing, post-punk ripper best enjoyed at high volume. Katie Alice Greer’s heady vocals are essentially flipping off modern day society– see the manic, frustrated lyrics of of “Design Within Reach” or “Doctor” for best proof of this. But this musical offering is the whole package: with equal parts biting guitar riffs, frenzied drumming, and sharp lyrics, the songs of Bodies show rather than tell. English teachers everywhere are proud.

Thankfully, and notably, Priests aren’t afraid to turn down the yell for at least one song. The somewhat subdued “Right Wing” is actually the damned catchiest song of this whole EP.

Get it from Don Giovanni, and may this be a lesson learned that you should always pay attention to the recommendations of your friends with good taste in music.
