PORCO – PORCO IN E

by

For when strict Boston garage rock isn’t cutting it and your ‘90s alternative favorites have turned stale—when neither genre is quite hitting the spot—give Boston’s PORCO a listen. Their early 2018 release, PORCO IN E embraces the rawness of the basement scene and the meditated, jangly charm of indie from decades’ pasts.

“Shorecorp” and “Rake” express the band’s strength of creating catchy and gripping melodies without a starkly obvious hook—a feat not easily achieved. Pavement-esque “Spaghetti Arms” listens much like a highway would if it were a song—the track deliberately wanders with an eager energy and some repeating parts that add up to a pleasant listen. “Baby Teeth” closes out PORCO IN E with a bluesy rhythm, but with lo-fi garage rock ambitions (think early Black Lips). And with that, PORCO gives you a taste of all the finer things in heavier indie rock. The sounds are familiar, but diverse, and debuts PORCO in an impressive fashion.
