The latest incarnation of punk preservers Patsy, although the title gives some grandmotherly advice, proves that polka beats aren’t just meant for background music as your grandmother recounts struggles from the homeland.
Despite that little introduction, writing about punk music feels counterintuitive. Especially with a band like Patsy, who expertly craft their songs to throw everything at you in one large but swallowable gulp: large enough to bombard unapologetically, but simple enough for universal head bang appeal. There isn’t much to look for per se and therefore not much for me to do here, but if the point of punk music were to sit and think about it academically Patsy would fall far from the mark. Instead, they hit the vein with precisely the right amount of that essential good good (primal scream, down picking, tempos>160), and leave the side dishes out for the feral dogs. AKA listen to this music now and you will feel better.
Originating from New Orleans, the band haven’t any tour dates scheduled around the Northeast in the foreseeable future (;_;), instead, I will have to settle for taking them on my daily walk silently punching the air and nodding fervently.
Patsy’s Eat It 7″ is out now via Total Punk Records and is streaming below.
