Animal Collective‘s Noah Lennox has been producing sweet, ethereal electro-enhanced songs most of his adult life as PANDA BEAR. His latest album, PANDA BEAR MEETS THE GRIM REAPER, features a computer-animated video for the song “Boys Latin.” It’s pretty magical as music videos go, and it got well stuck in my brain for days. The storyline is highly interpretable, but my favorite comment in the YouTube thread came from “Fringe Wizard,” who stated, “Just another day in the astral planes. Don’t try to interpret it guys. It simply is.” So I’ll spare you my deconstruction. But I do want to point out that Encyclopedia Pictura, the animation company that produced this Belgique-BD bucolic beauty, is basically a bunch of techno-anarchists who could easily have walked right off the pages of a Neal Stephenson novel. This world is so interesting. I love it here.
