The new(ish) project from members of New Orleans’ criminally under-appreciated Necro Hippies, Mystic Inane has a much different sound but still keeps it weird. Deep Creep follows up two killer demos, and further develops their hardcore punk sound: something along the lines of a snotty No Trend. Other buzzwords to describe the band are “80s USHC” and “angular,” which while both over used do capture Mystic Inane in a broad sense. “Raw” has been used as well, although, for fans of raw punk that will seem a bit misplaced. The 4-minute title track should be enough to get you hooked and have you begging for Mystic Inane to follow this up with an lp by the time “I Believe In UFOs” finishes up on the flip side. The 7” is available now on Negative Jazz, who reissued the Lumpy & The Dumpers demo earlier this year. Jump on it while you can.
