Les Filles De Illighadad
La Salla Rosa, Montreal QC, June 19
After spending a long weekend playing a show in Montreal, riding rental bikes and laying around in parcs, it was time to leave town and go back to work. I stayed into the night and could not refuse seeing at least some of Les Filles De Illighadad from Abalak, Niger, who were completely mesmerizing. I was entranced and could not think of leaving (listen to this music)!
I stayed on until the end. When leaving, the muffler of my Hyundai dislodged and dragged it behind several blocks back to my friend’s neighborhood. The tow truck came in the morning in torrential downpour and the kind driver, excited I was from the USA implored “I bet you haven’t broken down in another country before!” He was sadly mistaken. We went to Kiko Mufflers, owned and operated by Kiko, a very cool Reggaeton DJ. He only charged me only 40 bucks and gave me a mix CD, which I listened to: oui oui oui all the way home.
Returning to Turners Falls, MA, nightfall on the 20th of June, I joined Sunburned Hand of the Man for a heavy metal parking lot kind of show, disrupted by TFMA police and moved inside.
P.S. so much love and remembrance to the legacy of Danny Monster Cruz, a true friend of all people.
