The future’s a-comin’, and Multiple Man stands as the newest addition to the vanguard. Their debut 7″ proves these Aussie twins mean business – brutally dark, rough, cyberpunk business. For these guys it’s all about layering textures – the title track begins with gravelly, hiccuping bass synth laying the groundwork for huge (yet subtle) phased-out guitar that strikes you like a razor’s edge. And the vocals take that cue and run with it: demented, drooling, strangely sexy, and crushed with distortion. But what really revs my engine is the interplay between the A and B sides, and the consistent key is only the tip of the iceberg. “Body Double” gives you the dirge, and “Surface Roads” slaps you with that dystopian dancebeat; “Body Double” creates a massive spaced-out soundworld while “Surface Roads” is hyper-focused, burrows into you like a screw.
