The situation in Greece right now is a pretty ominous one. So it makes sense, in a way, to hear sounds like Mohammad’s “Sagaraki” emitting from the birthplace of democracy and Vangelis. Mohammad is the Athenian trio of Coti K, Ilios, and Nikos Veliotis. Using contrabass, cello, and oscillators, the three create rich, droning, dark ambient electroacoustic compositions which sneak up on the listener, like the shark I keep imagining is following in the wake of the boat in this video, waiting for its chance to nom on that sweet, sweet goat meat.
The video was directed and edited by Kyros Papavassiliou and filmed in Lefkosia, Cyprus. It is stately and slow-moving, just like the music it accompanies. “Sagaraki” is from Mohammad’s new full-length album Segondè Saleco, available now via the Antifrost label.
