That’s two minutes of post-punk & noise rock scuzzing blast straight out of Pittsburgh, PA right there. MICROWAVES are back in action! REGURGITANT PHENOMENA, the band’s 5th record, will soon be released by the folks over at NEW ATLANTIS RECORDS. It is the assault on the ears that I’ve come to expect from these men of soiled souls who have taken that potent 90s Midwestern no-wave disease to heart (and brain). As evidence take the above video for “Tapehead” (one of two videos for tracks off the new album). Winding, maddening guitar bending all around bass fuzzed out to disgusting level, barked staccato vocals, and drums that serve as the sharp pointed sticks necessary to keep this noisy episode going where it needs to go. When the mad sidewalk preacher vocals materialize the music shapes around it, but as it dissipates that nasty guitar lead (really awesome tone I must say) seizes the controls. The guitar is the head of this syncopated monster if it must have one. It is the most brazen embodiment of the instrument strangling abilities of the trio as a whole.
