Magas – “Shipping Container”

by

Couch, Bulb Records, Lake of Dracula, Midwich Productions. JIM MAGAS has lived the dank underground life for a long time now. Not many folks can boast an underground resume so difficult, varied, and perhaps most importantly, so facilitating of other difficult music and its makers. That Magas continues on as MAGAS, churning out churning, bogus beats for demented dancefloors is to be expected. For his music to be so awfully infectious and of the now almost twenty years deep into electronic music making territory is a testament to the man’s commitment to underground sounds.

“Shipping Container” is all I’ve got to work with off MAGAS’ latest EP, EXPLANATORY DENIAL (out on MIDWICH). The cowbell, bass, electro-tom funk of this thing is enough to give me fits. And were I lucky enough to be able to go to some club that would actually play this brilliant whacked techno I might actually be driven to a fit, but no one would know because everyone around me could only be doing the same thing. There, I would die on the dancefloor.
