Matthew Akers, formerly of Detroit, makes electronic music ideal for soundtracks. While strong compositions in their own right, the music perfectly captures the atmosphere for films ranging from giallo to the works of Brian de Palma to 80s action movies, and many more. The (primarily) ambient synth’s cinematic pastiche brings to mind the work of Tangerine Dream. Matthew Akers’ music serves as compliment to Boston’s Tredici Bacci, both not only exploring the genre soundtrack world but also the specific aesthetics and atmosphere surrounding them. A History Of Arson, released as a cassette on Out Of Body Records, is still available from the label and 2014 promises to be a big year for Akers with a slew of cassettes and 7”s forthcoming from various other labels.
