Looks Like Mountains – quick, before we’re all dead!

by

When listening to quick, before we’re all dead!, you’re looking at the world through the uninhibited, indie pop lens of Looks Like Mountains. Though the entire album clocks in under 15 minutes, it packs in an immense amount of honesty and observation.

The sound conjured up by Looks Like Mountains appears rather simple—it’s mellow, quiet, and bare. Upon closer inspection, however, there are layers upon layers of intricate instrumentation, delicate vocals, and loaded lyrics.

“At the End of Your Rope” embodies all of these qualities of the album in one short tune. Musically, it’s 58 seconds of pleasant bliss. Lyrically, it’s hauntingly reflective. The layers of strings echo the undertones of apprehension and uncertainty that is inherent in all things.

The album is a subtle watercolor painting of emotions—sadness, reassurance, hopefulness. But what comes out of it is an undeniably beautiful work of art that makes you give a half-smile of humble appreciation.
