LISTEN TO: WOODS

by

SUN & SHADE is the new record from WOODS. It is rambling and shambling, and full of wonderful melodies and hooks. WOODS’ tunes shamble along until they reach a lengthy psychedelic passage on a few occasions as on “Sol Y Sombra”, or the awesome kraut switch they pull on “Out of the Eye”; or more often they bump along in their psych-folk-pop way until a sweet chorus come around just enough times. WOODS’ sound is lo-fi, and lovely with just the right amount of weird twitch showing through. “Who Do I Think I Am?” is a majestically paced jangle popper that I could very well imagine bopping along to at some summer party, beer in hand, porch door open, my lady in my arms. Sweet falsetto and guitar lead moments on this one. And on this one too, though here the guitars get noisier; “Any Other Day” feels like a psyched up Guided By Voices jammer. Summery and noisy at times, folk feels, and indie pop feels, and 60s feels and in sum really great stuff here. Out on WOODSIST.
