>LISTEN TO: THE MOLES – UNTUNE THE SKY

Gorgeous noisy pop from Australia. This is the Moles’ first record, and really only record as a band before songwriter Richard Davies(an at times collaborator of Robert Pollard) took over completely and went solo. “Tendrils and Paracetamol” takes us on a trip of pulsating rock and strange changes over the course of the song’s 6 minutes. Furthering along we find our way to faded organ drenched ballads. Touches of Velvet Underground, 60s psych-rock, and Brit pop abound. “Europe By Car” is really what I wish all songs were: driving, groove laden, melodic, featuring a noisy undercurrent and over before you know it so that you can listen to it on repeat happily. This record is often moody, and meandering and thus just what I’m looking for in a great pop record. And that’s exactly what this.
The download below is Flydaddy’s reissue of the album featuring all the songs from both the CD and LP versions of the album, as well as all four tracks from the double-sided 7″ What’s the New Mary Jane? EP.
