New jams from GUIDED BY VOICES bros. Robert Pollard and Doug Gillard. WAVING AT THE ASTRONAUTS is the second album from this project called LIFEGUARDS, and it’s definitely awesome at times. Rocking throughout with various effects, acoustic guitars, post-punk ideas, and indie flourishes to be found. Apparently Gillard recorded all the instrumental tracks and then sent along the whole thing to Pollard to add the vocals. And did he. Really some of his best melodic writing in a while. “Paradise Is Not So Bad” is the album opener and apparent single, and it is by far the album’s standout tune.
