SLUMBERLAND RECORDS strikes again with this band out of Oakland. KIDS ON A CRIME SPREE merge the detached sensibility and vocal approach found in much of SLUMBERLAND’s(and their ilk’s) indie-pop output with Phil Spector-ish wall of sound-y production and general girl group-like song structures. The combo of influences is a great winner too. This is walk in the park, drivin’ along, summertime music. Easy and breezy, easily hum-along-able to, but with sass. WE LOVE YOU SO BAD is a serious good time pop record. “Sweet Tooth” clocks in at under 2 minutes and is all monotone sing-along handclap infused goodness. “I Don’t Wanna Call You Baby, Baby” is one of the pockets of sass I was talking about previously. Great title, awesome guitar crunch, and sublime melodies all perfectly and lazily delivered. I am finding quite a bit to love about this band. Despite the horrible weather outside in Boston, I have managed to find some summer jams for myself. Mario Hernandez of the awesome BUBBLEGUM TO THE SKY fronts this crew too.
