DJ NATE is from Chicago. He works in a genre dubbed footwork, which is a subgenre of juke. All I have to say is, JEEZUZ. DJS NATE’s jams defy a simple rule of many dance musics by leaving the drums and percussion in general to simply operate as skitter atop sample riffs soon to be drilled into your listener brain through severe repetition. The main driving force behind NATE’s tunes are sampled bits of vocals from wherever(a bunch noticeably from hip hop tunes) that he either: lets ride into infinity on their own, chops up and intermingles back amidst the original sample itself(in an act not unlike feeding chicken meat to a chicken) or another sample, or slows down, speeds up, or stutter steps to create the wild ass, whack as all hell, but so tantalizingly magnetic beats found on his record below. This record the DA TRAK GENIOUS (what an awesome record title), is a mind melt. Defiantly dance party, so far off my radar that I just want to scream, and epically bizzare. “A+ Mayhem”, “Hatas Our Motivation”, and especially “Footwurk Homicide”, with it’s unbelievably flammed and repeated vocal samples are the standouts.
