Birthed of the 60s, CHIEF COMMANDER EBENEZER OBEY, was one of Nigeria’s most popular musical acts throughout the 70s and 80s. Obey began his musical journey after moving to Lagos in the late 1950s. He started putting out records in the mid-60s, first with his band the International Brothers, and later the Inter-Reformers. The music Obey and his bands created is a trance inducing repetition driven dance music derived and mutated from African pop styles like juju and highlife, and often featuring the talking drum of the Yoruba precussion style.
In 1984 CHIEF COMMANDER put out a record called SOLUTION. It is the perfect record for a New England spring day like the one we are currently enjoying. Multiple guitars in lock step groove mode while away as call and response/gospel-like vocal stylings between the Chief and his lot dance about going here and there, or wherever.
Replete with crazy percussion breakdowns. This is party music unless you’re some kind of dweeb.
