BIG DIGITS have been a Boston area institution for the better part of a decade. These guys have played so many basement parties/shows, steer roasts, dance nights, and underbills of bonafied dance music superstars’ shows(MIA, Blowfy, Dan Deacon etc.) that they deserve some sort of party starting key to the city or some garbage like that. These guys have always rep’d the area’s underground hard, and they’ll be doing so again soon on yet another west coast tour and on our own local underground music compilation BOSTON HASSLE. And now they have crushed our heads with a 2nd full length LP, KNOW TOMORROW, out now on Providence’s ANCHOR BRAIN. This thing is non-stop, glitched out hand pumping dance floor damage. On “Fired Up” DJ Mark E. Moon lays down an infectious rhythmic hook that never lets up for the song’s entire 3 minutes. Meanwhile mouthpieces Mac Swell & TD spew their patented rapid fire machine gun verbage with maximun swagger. “Lavalanche” finds CORAL COLA’s main man Mikey Lee collaborating with Mac Swell for the beat, a deconstruction of Bernard Herrmann’s theme to CAPE FEAR. The results are a moodier, but still manic counterpoint to the rest of the record. The record closes with a tune that seem like a classic at this point, as it’s been a mainstay of BIG DIGITS live set for a long time. “Making Progress” is an uplifting techno flavored anthem with a killer breakdown, and one hell of a way to end a record. This record should definitely spread around the BIG DIGIT’s love further than ever. My only question is, when’s the next LP coming out?
