THE LENTILS – MY PILLOW LAVA PART ONE: MY DEAF SON

by

Northampton’s Feeding Tube Records continues its wonderful procession of outsiders with a new LP entitled “My Pillow Lava Part One: My Deaf Son” from Luke Csehak this time without the merry company of his Happy Jawbone Family Band under his Lentils moniker. In THE WRONG SONG a rustic guitar melody frolics over the bass’s baroque mumblings, creating a dusty terra firma for Csehak’s ornate musings, his voice peaking just enough to crunch the upper register of my headphones. It’s art that is wholeheartedly embedded with the ethos as much as the sound of personal home production. In closing the song veers off in a ouroborean crescendo where the lyrics spiral into a stressful remark on the shape of the ogoing creative process. “The song has gone wrong,” comments Csehak. It frankly captures a thought that tends to happen when a song hatches in bedroom isolation; a mind at odds with itself. It’s a document of Ceshahk’s thoughts in the midst of wrestling with the bucking bronco of creation.
