What happens when you take Nirvana, but not “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Nirvana, but instead “Kurt Cobain during the MTV Unplugged” Nirvana, and take that sound, still grungey and earnest but with a slow and moody almost dark country drawl and vibe, and build it back up from the ground into a full band femme fatale project with Pixies-esque guitar lines and methodical drums? When that happens, you open the door for Julie Cira to enter the room, and you will never be the same again. Whether solo or accompanied by her band, Julie Cira and The Wake stretches songcraft from soft and slow to heavy and fast, and mixes it up with everything in between.
