Isolde Touch — Step of the Cat

by

Isolde Touch is the performing moniker of multimedia artist Asha Sheshadri. On Step of the Cat, the SoCal native and onetime Boston resident follows up thoughtful releases on Digitalis Ltd. and Further with a tape that brings forth some of the elements of her recent local performance in Brookline. The recording is largely a capella, combining looped singing and glitchy spoken word with heavy reverb and occasional shards of textured noise.

While her live performance incorporates text and video elements, on Step of the Cat, the listener is left to visualize for themselves. The results are haunting and ethereal, yet strangely earthbound and concrete for something so mechanistic. Like transistors and wires coated in rust and grit, weightier than you might initially believe.

Step of the Cat is available now in a limited edition of 30 copies from FAG TAPES.
