I IM EYE MY, a collaboration of Philadelphians Al Creedon and Sean Hamilton, (respectively of Bleeding Rainbow and Spacin’) have released a spiraling collision of fabricated and organic, modern and primeval, and synth-tone and world percussion out on Not Not Fun. On this cassette artifact entitled “7 Transmissions”, the dusty arpeggio meets the chime-and-bloc-beat, conga meets the midi-sequencer, and droning chant meets its youtube sample accompaniment. The bleary-eyed synth grain present in much of Boards of Canada output is an appropriate reference point here, although the tempo is altogether different. There’s no cinematic crescendo. Start to finish the beats propel ever-shifting tides of sequencing forward at autobahn-appropriate speeds. The incantation and hypnotic repetition initiate a head-trip, while the heavy beats sway the cranium in a steady bob, grounding a portion of the listener’s attention to the corporeal zone. The project is a diversion from these two musicians journey from the realm of guitar-fuzz, but there still remains a dexterous physicality present. You feel this one in your bones in addition to your third eye.
