Raub Roy has been crafting far-out sound pieces in many dimensions for quite some time with prior releases on Phinery, No Basement is Deep Enough, Hot Releases and his own label, Weird Ear Records. Currently based in Oakland, Raub Roy is known for his longstanding project Horaflora, which explores various electro-acoustic sound sources and inventive sound-making techniques. Making a return to the Denmark based label Phinery with Body Lag/Craedle Calls, Raub splits the tape between Horaflora and his newest project, Scy1e which descends into spacious and complex synthesis territories.
Body Lag(ASMR) is a disorienting long form foray into a continuously shifting head space, the feeling of maneuvering through the murky layers of space-time as each dimension dissolves behind you while something slowly crawls throughout each crevice of your central nervous system. Delicate sonic sensations into skewered exploding shards of percussion, blistered bowed drones and gurgling reverberations unraveling into a spicy sound stew. Falling out of awareness of time, the world that Horaflora concocts is subtlety hypnotic. Body Lag’s carefully woven composition seems to splinter and shed its shell around you, leaving you in the center of its circle.
Craedle Calls, the product of Raub Roy’s more recently hatched project Scy1e, sits sharply focused on the spastic bursts of synthesis and unhinged cerebral sound scapes. Nimble passages of blissful loops pull themselves out of your ear canal, stretching into an elastic putty of melted, palpitating geometric shapes. “Phorsey” is a hauntingly pleasant collaging of intangible vocal constellations that dance between the recoils of a pivoting synthesizer patch. Subtle atoms of sound bytes float amongst the spaces between your ears, as new neural pathways become patched together with triangle waves.
Scy1e is going to be touring the East Coast with Glochids and Nurse Betty.
