Dance music signposts are disfigured and re-conceived on Montreal-based Francesco De Gallo’s latest outing as Hobo Cubes. “Structures in Stasis” is our first taste of the upcoming Apex Ideals, and it couldn’t be more baiting. “Stasis” is achieved through a reverse climax. Techno afterthoughts are delivered as aural assault right off the bat. Severed talking heads tumble away to reveal buzzing synths and an epileptic kick drum. Mood is king in this land, and De Gallo keeps us firmly in the dungeon, only taking the listener lower and lower, further from the firm handles of their expectations.
De Gallo has already amassed a lengthy list of familiar label residences on his resume, having released mind-bending cassettes and albums on NNA, Orange Milk, and Digitalis, as well as a host of others. Apex Ideals is out on Seattle’s Debacle Records on February 11th – lock down that pre-order right here, and stream “Stasis” below.
