Heaven And Earth Magic’s Complete Works is part of the first batch of releases from Western Mass’s newest tape label, High Ledge Tapes. The release features the complete recordings of Heaven And Earth Magic, a trio featuring Tony (SQRM, Crystalline Roses, World Domination, Gluebag, Frozen Corn, etc), Zac (Zac Johnson And The Yankee Entertainer), and Ian (Hoax, Aerosols). Two bonus tracks of pre-Heaven And Earth Magic band, Old Bay Path, also appear on the tape. Musically, it is folk rock, more closely related to Gluebag than to the more primitive folk projects like Zac Johnson And The Yankee Entertainer or Crystalline Roses. It sounds vaguely like Neil Young’s more country jams with elements of psychedelia and bluegrass thrown in. While this may be the only release from Heaven And Earth Magic, Gluebag’s lp comes out on Boston’s Framework in a few weeks. High Ledge Tapes is a label to watch out for, and tapes from Stoned Ambassadors and The Pins And Needles should be available in the not too distant future.
