Blankstairs has been slowly carving out a lovely niche in the Pacific Northwest as a home to techno and beat tape variations both momentous and sublime. With killer releases from Yiota and U.S. Hard already under their belt, I’ve been waiting pretty eagerly for what might come next.
Looks like its Australian! Hal Floyd‘s Water Colors is the latest release from the label, and might be their best to date. This is deeper beat music, delicate but sculpted with strength, each detail emerging just enough. Floyd is typically associated with the Chicago-based Don’t Trust Humans crew, but seems like a natural fit for Blankstairs.
