They keep releasing new material, so we keep writing about them. Though, all we have right now to share is the first track from the upcoming GUERILLA TOSS record being released by (who else but) NNA TAPES. That near future record will be called GAY DISCO, which is also the name of one of the tracks from the record, which you have probably heard if you’ve been fortunate enough to see this band live some time recently. You’ve probably also heard this track streaming below if you’ve been out to the basements or other off beat venues that this strange lot tend to inhabit. Was that them fucking rocking hundreds of people (to the brink of insanity) @ the Elks for Hassle Fest 5 just days ago? Yeah, it was. It’s really hard to convey the importance of this band to the Boston independent and underground art community, and in particular to us here at the Hassle. In GUERILLA TOSS we here have found that willing partner band in bridging the gap between party and serious music, between music school and strange person clutching an instrument in the corner, between music snob and wide eyed neophyte. Yes, I know these people personally and am enamored with each individually, but holy jesus mary joseph do they fuck shit up when they get together. I’ve heard this new record and it just may be their best yet, and if I had had to pick an initial offering to the public, I also would have gone with “Trash Bed.” While undeniably a GUERILLA TOSS song, “Trash Bed” has a little bit more of that Spanish fly spiked-groove action that without a doubt opens this thing up to a larger variety of ear. Man vocals are utilized here (and elsewhere on the record) and I am a fan of the ballast they provide against the never stopping never ceasing act of aggression named Kassie. As always the undulating syncopation of drumming/ bass/ guitar/ synth is just the smack in the face you needed. Post-punkers and no-wavers past and present can both revel in the freshness and classic nature of what we have here. Get.
