Guerilla Toss – “Diamond Girls”

by

Guerilla Toss: you’ve heard the story before.  “America’s most dangerous band,” “Noise-funk meets art-punk,” Heroes of “shitty basement parties thrown by reasonably hip people.”  Kicked Back into the Crypt. Gay Disco. 367 Equalizer. Smack the Brick. Flood Dosed.  We don’t need an introductory paragraph.  You know Guerilla Toss. The albums keep pouring out and the reviews keep rolling in.

Now here we are in 2016 and the Boston noise heroes are gearing up for their most anticipated release yet.  They moved to Brooklyn. Signed onto DFA Records.  A couple national tours, 1 or 2 lineup shifts, and a European tour later…we have the first taste from “Eraser Stargazer,” the new Guerilla Toss LP due out March 4th via DFA Records.

Lead single “Diamond Girls” gives us  plenty more of that classic G-Toss cacophony.  Distorted drums and cowbell punch you in the face from the very beginning.  Noise guitar drips in, funk bass flops around, synthesizers swell, and wild vocals shriek outward. Just when it starts to become all too much, the song cuts out before diving head-first back into the noise again.  About halfway in, the jam really finds its sweet spot and the Tosser’s lock into one of their catchiest grooves to date. The hook is almost reminiscent of Gay Disco highlight  “Operate.”  You can just feel the reasonably hip people moshing in the shitty basements all-across our beautiful country.  Mosh on, America.  New Guerilla Toss is imminent.
