GUERILLA TOSS – “367 EQUALIZER”

by

GUERILLA TOSS has some new tunes for you. They come in the form of a cassette being released by INFINITY CAT RECORDINGS (run by the JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD, err, brothers) as part of a tape series curated by one of the guys from DIARRHEA PLANET. The new album is called 367 EQUALIZER, and it’s been getting some good press “out there” which is nice to see. On this one GTOSS are locking into the groove hard, rolling with extended, slowly mutating riffage straight on and on and on and on. Singer Kassie is bent on unleashing a relentless flow of pitter patter screech atop the bubbling brew of these beats. And she does. There’s the funky Latin tinged beat & sloshing aux percussion, and the clockwork bass patterns, and on this clothesline is hung a rich assortment of soaking with wetness synth wobble, guitar pulse and a residual foamy residue. The backbone may be less fragmented here, but GUERILLA TOSS is not moving away from the dissonant noise bleat & beat that is their essence. They keep making it weird, and more and more people keep joining the party. PROGRESS. Is this progress? Hard to say, but the song “367 EQUALIZER”, and the tape of the same name, sound pretty fucking good.
