Gravity (2013) dir. Alfonso Cuaron

Gravity was the first space movie that really felt like a space movie, at least for me. The effects are so powerful that you really feel as though you’re there with the astronauts, fighting to survive whatever the universe is throwing your way. Starring Sandra Bullock, the film shares the story of a medical engineer, Dr. Ryan Stone, on her first space mission where seemingly everything that can go wrong, does go wrong.

Critics praised the visual effects and Bullock’s performance, achieved through hours of work alone with just film cameras around her. After space debris severely damages the shuttle she is on, Stone and her fellow astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) decide to head for the International Space Station. Onee they get there, however, they find an even worse situation than they imagined.
