Though the foot-stomping bass opening line sounds like it could segue easily right into a surf lick, “19”, from Salem, Mass.’s Gravel, is garage rock, plain and simple. Fuzzed-out guitar lines and pleading vocals give “19” a taste of one of the genre’s key, if oft overlooked, foundation ingredients: angst. Because, hey, it’s too cold to surf in New England in February. Also, being 19 counts as being a teenager, and being a teenager is…rough.
