There is something about the aptly-titled new song and video of “Flight Song” by PDX duo Golden Retriever that I can only describe as “celestial”. The field of black and its dancing shapes in blue, white, red and purple combine with the gorgeous combination of Matt Carlson’s shimmering modular synthesizer and Jordan Sielaff’s bass clarinet to create an effect of something you’d find in the heart of a far-off nebula.

The song has a crystalline, effortless beauty that is abstract, but not in a way that requires too much cerebral activity from the listener. It would be great music for meditating. So kick back or get into that lotus position and allow yourself to be taken away…
