Godflesh – “F.O.D. (Fuck Of Death)”

by

The Godflesh – F.O.D. (Fuck Of Death) flexi, released with issue #109 of Decibel magazine, is the first new material by the band to be released since 2001. Recorded by original members Justin Broadrick (Napalm Death, Jesu) and G.C. Green, the song is a cover of a Slaughter song from their 1987 album Strappado. The song shows Godflesh’s signature industrial metal style, equal parts early Swans and heavy metal. While the riffing in the song gets a bit tedious, the song is still a decent cover. More importantly, the flexi – as well as the set lists for the for their recent slew of shows – shows Godflesh playing more in the vein of their earlier releases, with a focus primarily on Streetcleaner and Pure. Broadrick confirms that the new album will be in this style, although he says there will be “a few songs with hip-hop beats,” which sounds more like an indication that songs will sound more like tracks from Songs Of Love And Hate. Either way A World Lit Only By Fire is something to look out for in 2014, along with the rescheduled US tour dates. In the meantime, F.O.D. (Fuck Of Death) is here to whet your appetite.
