Columbus, Ohio based artist Keith Rankin is a man with many hats. Along with being the sole creative force behind the experimental electronic project Giant Claw, Rankin is also the operator of the excellent Orange Milk Records (one of the finest electronic record labels currently releasing music) as well as a visual artist responsible for much of the Giant Claw artwork, along with a number of other recognizable album covers.
With 10+ releases in the Giant Claw catalogue, Deep Thoughts is the newest album in the growing GC discography. Put out this past November on Rankin’s own Orange Milk Records, the album has a very playful and disoriented feel, while still moving in a very deliberate and pointed fashion. Deep Thoughts plays as if Beethoven was browsing through the pre-programmed instruments on a cheap keyboard, stuck in the synth brass section while trying to find the basic Piano setting…sprinkle in some elements of a Black Dice or a Oneohtrix Point Never and i think we’re getting close to that Deep Thoughts sound.
The album is streaming in full on Giant Claw’s bandcamp.
Looking like we’ll be throwing a Giant claw show in june in Boston… so LOOK OUT!!!! – ed.
