Somerville rocks. Some folks may disagree or agree with that statement to a varying degree, but those arguing in its favor have Future Spa on their side. This Somerville garage rock band’s recently released EP of brash, echoing garage punk literally rocks. Billing itself as “surf punk”, nothing on Girl alludes directly to surf rock, though all four tracks are close cousins of those early Wavves songs that surely conjure images of California days spent playing hooky and smoking weed on the beach. Though, on Girl, there are a few sharp guitar licks and drum solos sprinkled throughout to keep you on your feet, and prove that Future Spa isn’t just another garage rock band.
