Fresh Vid: Red Shaydez and Brandie Blaze – “Tia Tamera Remix”

by

This collab between two of the queens of the Boston rap scene honestly sent more shivers down my spine than all the major crossovers in the Marvel cinematic franchise combined. Red Shaydez, coming off her recent EP “Chillin’ in the Shade,” that came out earlier this year, takes the lead, sporting her iconic red sunglasses, and busting rhymes like no tomorrow, while Brandie Blaze’s verses truly shine with her quintessential “trap feminism.”

This song is a remix of Doja Cat’s song featuring Rico Nasty, “Tia Tamera,” though Red Shaydez truly makes it her own, and Brandie even namedrops Dorchester in her verses, reminding the viewer of these powerful women’s Boston roots. The video, directed by Jay Hunt of Smokehouse Media, looks like an episode of “Black Mirror,” as it toys with red lights, red-tinted gas, and, of course, Red Shaydez’ glasses, all amidst flashes of lightning, enhancing the electrifying effect of the two rappers’ performances. But really, the most electric parts of the video are the women themselves, working together to remix a song and make it their own, with fresh lyrics and a great beat.
