Before [PHYSICS]’s new LP Spectramorphic Iridescence, all we had heard from this Los Angeles citizen has been a few digital EPs and a tape on vaporwave proponent AMDISCS. [PHYSICS] shares the AMDISCS rosters’ penchant for a creative freedom situated specifically in the “post-medium” of the “internet wave.” However, instead of offering us a collection of brief experiments with abstract, YouTube commercial anthology-sourced sound sculptures, [PHYSICS] amps up the joy and leaves listeners with a satisfyingly immersive album that barely crosses the 35-minute mark. Surprisingly, this is done with the simplest of sounds – warm synths build and collapse while tinkering Radiophonic percussion keeps the listener firmly stationed in the albums lush, candy-coated universe. If samples abound, they are weaved in to the album’s fabric evenly and tastefully. Fans of Oneohtrix Point Never and Hype Williams will especially enjoy the digital/organic environments created and explored on Iridescence. Check the (mildly NSFW) headtrip of a video for album track “Cardinal Perplexogram” below, and stream/buy/love the whole damn thing over at Digitalis’s bandcamp.
