Here’s some audio-visual Drain-o to help clear out all that mass media gunk, courtesy of Portland, Oregon-based Wayne Longer, aka OXYKITTEN. A highly prolific analog synth fiend, Longer has produced a torrent of releases over the past few years under both the Oxykitten psuedonym and, somewhat more prominently as ADDERALL CANYONLY. His numerous releases span a wide range of synth styles, from lo-fi 4-track shitbeats and high priest arpeggio drones to spacey kraut cruisers and slinky balearic slow jams. His latest, ‘The Gates of Heaven,’ is a tantalizing preview of his next release ‘Escape from New Amsterdam,’ coming soon from synth cassette label Field Hymns. Shifting into a darker territory, Longer lays down jagged synths that pulse out a grinding rhythm against ominous background tones. More and more synth patterns bubble forth in jarring, asymtrical bursts, building a disquieting, inevitable momentum, like an incomprehensibly vast machine awakening from a long slumber for some menacing, inscrutable purpose. Well have to wait for the full release to discover the true significance of this throbbing interstellar beast, but in the meanwhile, get lost in Longer’s bountiful discography.
