And now comes the period early in the year where I find a small handful of amazing records that would have been on my year end list if I had known about them in time. ETERNAL TAPESTRY’s latest record for THRILL JOCKEY is definitely one of these. A WORLD OUT OF TIME seems to bring together American, British, German and other psychedelic musical influences, to concoct a tripped out blend of psych pop, psych folk, and of course infinity jams. I actually am just learning about this band (featuring members of JACKIE-O MOTHERFUCKER), so I am very excited indeed to jump deeply into their sonic world. A world full of familiar psychedelia, but done up with a knowing and broad enough brush as to make you nod your head up and down in approval, rather than side side to side in derision. The second of two albums this Portland, OR band released in 2012. “Sand Into Rain” is a lovely shambling psych pop number that is only a partial representation of the sound of this band, but as well done as anything on the new record. I especially enjoy the rumble of the baritone sax beneath the soaring guitar solo on the bridge here.
